April 8, 2013 – The last week has seen a rapid rise of the Kettle River with very warm, sunny days across the region last weekend. Then it rained. Here’s how the river has responded so far (data and graphics from US Geological Survey):

Flows are far higher than normal for early April, exceeding the 1934 maximum of 9670 CFS (274 cubic metres per second / CMS) to 13000 CFS (368 CMS). These values are much more characteristic of flows in middle of May to early June. Is this one of the earlier and higher floods related to climate change?
